Dr Michelle Hannah

Clinical Psychologist

Michelle is a Clinical Psychologist with experience working in multidisciplinary private and community-based mental health settings. She is experienced in assessment, diagnosis, and a range of evidence-based treatment interventions, and is passionate about holistic psychotherapy.

Michelle works with adolescents and adults experiencing a range of psychological difficulties, such as anxiety, depression, grief and adjustment issues, trauma, personality and attachment-based disorders, and self-esteem challenges. Her special areas of interest include the treatment of adult ADHD, childhood trauma, attachment issues, relationship and interpersonal difficulties, and women’s mental health.

Michelle’s values of openness, non-judgement, compassion, and respect are central to her practice. Her therapeutic style is one of warmth and collaboration, and she is dedicated to creating a safe therapeutic environment in which clients feel supported to explore their emotions and experiences.

Prior to her transition into clinical psychology, Michelle practiced as a Cultural Anthropologist, and lived and researched in Buddhist communities in northern India, South Korea, and Australia, exploring cultural change. She brings to her practice of psychology an understanding of how culture – whether family, community, or societal – shapes our beliefs, interpretation of experiences, identity, emotional expression, and coping mechanisms. This is key to understanding why we think the things we think, and do the things we do.

Michelle incorporates a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, tailored to each client’s presenting difficulties, including third wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (acceptance and mindfulness-based therapies), Schema Therapy, Attachment-based Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic-based Psychotherapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Michelle is a fully registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), holds a Master of Clinical Psychology and Doctorate in Anthropology, and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS).
