ADHD Clinic
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a significant neurodevelopmental disorder characterized fundamentally by a deficit in inhibition and, subsequently, in the executive functions that govern our ability to self-regulate. It is not merely a collection of isolated symptoms, but a genuine disorder that impacts an individual’s capacity to direct behavior toward future goals, manage emotions, sustain effort, and inhibit impulsive responses. This can lead to pervasive and often disabling impairments across virtually all major life domains, from childhood through adulthood.
At Reflect Health’s ADHD Clinic, our focus is on providing rigorous assessment and evidence-based interventions for adults experiencing the profound impact of ADHD. We recognize that while individuals with ADHD may possess unique strengths, the disorder itself presents persistent challenges in self-control that are not simply a matter of willpower. Our approach is to clearly define the nature of these impairments and implement systematic, proven strategies to mitigate their effects, thereby improving daily functioning and overall quality of life…

Our ADHD Clinic provides comprehensive support for adults navigating core executive function challenges such as:
- Inhibition and Self-Restraint: Difficulties in stopping oneself from acting impulsively, speaking out of turn, or reacting emotionally without forethought, which can strain relationships and lead to regrettable decisions.
- Sustained Attention and Persistence: The inability to maintain effort or focus on tasks that are not inherently interesting or immediately rewarding, resulting in chronic incompleteness, procrastination, and underperformance in academic or occupational settings.
- Working Memory Deficits: Impairment in holding information in mind to guide action, leading to forgetfulness, disorganization, and difficulty following multi-step instructions or complex conversations.
- Emotional Dysregulation: Significant challenges in inhibiting immediate emotional responses, often manifesting as heightened frustration, irritability, or explosive temper, disproportionate to the situation.
- Poor Planning and Problem-Solving: Difficulty in anticipating future consequences, setting realistic goals, sequencing tasks, and executing plans effectively, impacting long-term stability and achievement.
- Time Management Deficits: A pervasive inability to accurately gauge the passage of time or manage activities within time constraints, leading to chronic lateness, missed deadlines, and chaotic scheduling.
- Impact Across Life Domains: Addressing how these core impairments manifest as significant difficulties in occupational performance, financial management, driving safety, health adherence, and interpersonal relationships.
What to Expect
We understand that seeking an ADHD diagnosis is a crucial step towards better self-management and functional improvement. Our process is designed to be thorough and scientifically grounded, ensuring a precise understanding of your unique profile. Here’s a brief overview of what your diagnostic journey with us will entail:

Initial Contact & Information Gathering
Your journey begins when we send you our detailed intake forms. Completing these forms is a vital first step, as they allow us to gather essential historical data and current symptom presentation.
Mental Health GP or Nurse Practitioner Assessment (2 Sessions)
Your initial assessment will be conducted over two dedicated sessions with either a qualified mental health GP or a Nurse Practitioner (NP). These sessions are crucial for gathering comprehensive information about your developmental trajectory, historical patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, and the specific functional impairments you experience across various life domains. This detailed preliminary assessment directly supports the subsequent psychiatric evaluation.
Psychiatrist Review & Feedback
Our psychiatrist will then conduct a thorough review of all collected information, including the detailed assessment provided by your Mental Health GP or NP. They may conduct additional interviews or observations as deemed necessary. For a complete understanding of your lifelong patterns and the pervasive nature of ADHD, you will be requested to bring along a family member or someone who knows you well to this pivotal session. Following this, a comprehensive feedback session will occur where the diagnostic conclusions (or lack thereof) will be discussed in detail, along with their implications for your daily functioning and future management.
Comprehensive Report
To formalize the assessment findings, you will receive a detailed written report. This document will clearly outline the diagnostic conclusions, summarize the evidence, and provide initial recommendations for interventions and further resources aimed at mitigating the functional impact of ADHD.
Following this rigorous assessment, we work collaboratively to formulate a personalized management plan. This plan is grounded in evidence-based interventions, primarily focusing on:
Pharmacological Management
For many adults with ADHD, medication remains a highly effective intervention for reducing core symptoms and improving executive functioning. A dedicated mental health GP or Nurse Practitioner will support the psychiatrist in this management process, including ongoing monitoring and adjustments. Once your symptoms are stable and well-managed, you will have the option to be discharged with a comprehensive management plan back to your regular GP for continued care.
Behavioral and Cognitive Strategies:
Implementing practical, externally organized structures and techniques to compensate for inherent executive function deficits, such as organizational systems, time management tools, and strategies for improving self-motivation and persistence. Our psychologists are adept at providing these strategies, and our mental health GPs and Nurse Practitioners can also offer valuable guidance in this area.
Psychoeducation
Providing a clear, scientific understanding of ADHD’s neurological basis and its pervasive impact, empowering individuals to approach their challenges with accurate knowledge rather than misconception or moral judgment. Further detailed information and resources are available in The Resources section below.
Our objective is to equip you with the most effective tools to manage the symptoms of ADHD, reduce associated impairments, and enhance your capacity for self-regulation and successful functioning in all aspects of your adult life.
