My favourite quote is, “ I am because we are” Ubuntu. I believe in human connection, involving listening, sharing and healing through genuine compassion.
When people ask where I am from, I reply that I am a citizen of the world. I am from an Indian background but was born in Nigeria. I completed my school education in India, basic medical education in Ukraine and my membership mental health training as a psychiatrist in the UK before finally settling in Geelong, Australia. I completed my Psychiatric fellowship training at Barwon Health.
This journey has helped me acknowledge diverse differences and accept people in a non-judgemental way. I have always been interested in more than just categorical definitions within psychiatry. I prefer to involve the whole person through an assessment which includes understanding the core issues that contribute to the presentation. This incorporates a biological, psychological, social, cultural, spiritual, nutritional and environmental approach. In addition to my training as a Psychiatrist, I have undergone extra training and am a Member of the Australian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine as well as the Australian ADHD Professionals Association.
When I am not working, I enjoy time for myself through meditation and Yoga, playing tennis and badminton, updating my medical and mental health knowledge through reading and listening to podcasts and spending time with my beautiful family and friends.
